DESCRIPTION
An exciting adventure starting off with an acclimatization trek through the popular Markha Valley and then on to Chamsher Kangri, a spectacular Changthang plateau overlooking the pristine Tsomoriri Lake. Markha Valley is a classic trek to get to know Ladakh and enjoy its moon-like landscapes. The trail passes through villages in the beginning and then onto grazing pastures and has a high pass Kongmaru la (5200m) to be crossed on the penultimate day. After the acclimatization trek, we attempt the lower twin of the twin peaks of Chamsher and Lungsher in the Rupshu area.
Chamsher is a non-technical trekking peak but pretty high and is a prized catch for anybody getting started with mountaineering. The summit affords excellent views of Tsomoriri Lake with Korzok Village and Mentok Kangri, making the backdrop. This trip is also a great chance to get an insight into the lives of the Changpa Nomads who wander around the Changthang.
